RIVERSIDE DRIVE, MORNINGSIDE HEIGHTS, NEW YORK
Beautifully proportioned rooms and striking windows set the stage for the renovation of this large one-bedroom apartment overlooking Riverside Park. To highlight the classic architecture, Shadow Architect, P.C. worked to restore or recreate original moldings and details in the entry and living rooms, and then introduced a modern kitchen and bathroom to create a dialogue between the apartment’s history and its new life. While using standard off-the-shelf cabinetry and other components to manage the budget, the architects combined these elements with selected handcrafted features and materials to distinguish the spaces and start a new chapter for the home. Once the built-in items were in place, the firm put together an interior design program to combine the owner’s existing mid-century furniture and artwork with new furniture pieces and lighting.
